Since the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games the North West has built on its reputation as a venue for sporting events. The region has also developed a considerable portfolio of businesses able to compete on the world stage as specialist suppliers to the Sports and Major Events Industry.
The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and Business Link NorthWest (BLNW) are committed to helping businesses in the region to be competitive and to win business from Major Sports Events, including the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, and potential future major events such as the bid to host the FIFA World CupTM in 2018.
NWDA and BLNW have commissioned Gecko Ltd, PAWA Consulting and TBR to assist them in compiling a directory of specialist suppliers to major sports events. This will be used to help develop and promote businesses with a base in the region to London 2012 and other events including those held each year in the North West.
We are looking to identify companies able to compete at the global and national levels, as well as those able to compete within the region, and those with ambitions to grow. We will then produce a database of specialist skills and the companies within the North West able to deliver them to the appropriate standard.
Only companies with a relevant and proven track record of supply to major sports events will be included in the database so we cannot guarantee at this stage that you will be included. However in the event you are included in the directory there is no guarantee that you will be awarded any business as a result.
Please note: The purpose of this work is to identify companies with a track record of supplying specialist goods and services directly to major sports events. Sports venues, conference venues, accommodation (hotels, offices etc.), and general suppliers of sporting goods or clothing will not be included. For many services, we are looking for the main contractor rather than sub-contractors. For example, we would list the organisers of opening/closing ceremonies but not the performers they engage.
A more detailed list of the Major Sport Event Definitions can be found here and the Criteria For Inclusion are displayed in full here.
Please take the time to review these as your organisation will not be included if it is not covered by both sets of criteria.
If you think your organisation meets these criteria and you would like to be included in the North West Sports Event Directory, then PLEASE CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE AN APPLICATION FORM to be a part of this opportunity.
PLEASE NOTE: ON REQUEST WE HAVE EXTENDED THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS BEYOND THE 17th JULY, BUT PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR QUESTIONNAIRE SOON TO ENSURE IT IS INCLUDED.
If you are unable to complete your information in one go, as long as you click the ‘Next’ button (at the bottom of each page) your answers will be saved and you can return to the survey at any time. At the end, simply click the ’Done’ button to ensure your responses are saved and sent through.
The directory will be reviewed annually so if your organisation does not meet both sets of criteria at this time, there will be an opportunity to re-apply in future updates. Please click here to see our Review and Appeals Procedure.
